Solo Exhibition: Perfectly Imperfect (2019)

Part of HOP Projects CT20 2019 International Artist Residency Programme

My one month artist residency at the HOP Projects in Folkestone has been a wonderful and remarkable journey. It has provided me a live/work space to create, collaborate and network. Most importantly, I had the opportunity to get out of my comfort zone in a landscape that was foreign to me which push my work forward through my interpretation and connection with the place.

Stepping away from what was familiar to me was fun and filled with adventure. I am also grateful that I had the luxury of time to try out new mediums, materials and techniques that I have never experienced before in my art.

My latest work 6 x 6 Stories (2019) and 4 x 4 Stories (2019) reflected my interpretation of the surroundings in Folkestone. The idea started from the colour and shape study that I recorded in the studio after the day/night, scrolling around the place. Inspired by the poem How happy is the little Stone (1510) by Emily Dickinson, my work has soon developed into the process of choosing and collecting stones found on the Sandy Beach, responding to the subject matter that I always wanted to talk about about - journey of life.
